Supported housing facilities
About
A key feature of the Youth Hub is our supported housing facilities.
The Christchurch Methodist Mission manages our housing services providing transitional housing for rangatahi in a purpose-built supported housing wing containing 22 single-bedroom units.
This service is for young people aged between 16 to 24 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and in immediate need of housing.
The housing is staffed 24/7 and each rangatahi has a Youth Development Coach to help them reach their goals and develop skills in living independently. Rangatahi need to be working towards engaging in education, training, employment or volunteering.
Youth Hub Christchurch also provides wrap-around care for rangatahi including mental health, medical and educational services, employment and training, recreation, creativity and social entrepreneurship.
Referral processes:
Aged 18 and over: need to present to the Ministry of Social Development to let them know about their situation and request a referral be made to Youth Hub Housing (based on bed availability).
Aged 16 or 17: need to present to Comcol or Family Works (Presbyterian Support). They will arrange for a Family Breakdown assessment to be completed by an independent provider. If a family breakdown assessment is completed and Comcol or Family Works deem it appropriate, they will do a referral through to us (based on bed availability).
I’ve managed to get sober here. I’ve had staff members that I can come to when I need to achieve goals and face concerns. At the start, I didn’t know what I was doing. I was hanging out with the wrong people and getting myself into quite a lot of trouble but as I’ve grown, I’ve become more strong in who I am. I’ve started choosing the right friendships that benefit me and push me towards growth and challenge me as a person.
