Youth Hub Manager

Te Hurihanga ō Rangatahi – The Youth Hub Trust – operates Youth Hub Christchurch – New Zealand’s first purpose-built Youth Hub to combine supported housing for youth at risk of homelessness with wraparound youth support services and spaces for young people to connect and belong. We’re looking for a skilled and values-driven Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of this growing community facility.

About the role

Reporting to the Chair of the Youth Hub Trust Board, the Manager is responsible for keeping the Hub running safely, efficiently, and collaboratively – while ensuring it remains a culturally safe and inclusive environment for young people and the organisations that serve them.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will manage a small team (Reception and Operational Support, an Events Co-ordinator, and a Caretaker), oversee facility operations, support financial and budget management, and work closely with the Trust Board on strategy.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Leading and managing three direct reports across operations, events, and facilities

  • Overseeing day-to-day facility operations, maintenance, and contractor management

  • Fostering a collaborative culture among tenant organisations through regular meetings, shared planning, and joint initiatives

  • Supporting financial management, including operational budget-setting, forecasting, and reporting to the Finance Committee

  • Building and maintaining relationships with tenants, users, neighbours, and the wider community

  • Ensuring the Hub meets all Health and Safety, BWOF, and statutory compliance requirements.

The Youth Hub operates 24/7. This role requires availability outside standard working hours for incidents or emergencies.

About you

You are an experienced operations or community facilities manager who leads with confidence and warmth. You’re as comfortable sorting out a maintenance issue as you are facilitating a strategic conversation – and you bring genuine commitment to the young people and communities the Youth Hub serves.

You will bring

  • 3–5 years’ experience managing a community facility or similar, including maintenance, H&S, and financial and budget management

  • Proven people management skills and the ability to lead a small, diverse team

  • Competent in a positive youth development approach

  • Strong relationship-building skills across a wide range of stakeholders

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking

  • Understanding of tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ cultures, and a commitment to culturally safe practice

  • Proficiency in Microsoft platforms and the ability to learn new systems (including Xero, Nexudus room booking and membership software, and Little Green Light our donor CRM platform)

  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgement
